What does Psalms 119:135 mean?

The psalmist is asking God to turn toward him with favor and blessing, using the image of a face shining with warmth and approval. When someone's face "shines" on us, it means they're pleased, present, and attentive, which is what the writer desperately wants from God. In the same breath, he asks to be taught God's ways, showing that he understands real blessing comes through both God's presence and God's guidance. This is a prayer from someone who knows that walking the right path requires both feeling loved by God and actually understanding what he's asking of us.
