What does Psalms 118:22 mean?
In ancient times, builders would carefully examine stones and set aside ones with flaws or awkward shapes. This verse speaks about a stone that didn't fit their plans, one they threw aside as useless, yet it ultimately became the most important piece of the whole structure. It's a powerful image of how what seems worthless or broken in the moment can turn out to hold everything together. Early Christians saw this as pointing to Jesus, rejected and executed by the religious leaders of his day, only to become the foundation of faith itself. But the verse speaks more broadly to anyone who's felt cast off, overlooked, or like they didn't measure up to someone else's standards. God sees worth and purpose where the world sees only rejection. Sometimes the very things we're ashamed of or that others dismiss become the places where we grow strongest and most essential to others.
