Psalms 118:2
βLet Israel now say that his loving kindness endures forever.β
What does Psalms 118:2 mean?
The psalmist is inviting God's people to speak up and declare together what they've learned through experience: God's faithfulness never runs out. This is part of a psalm that celebrates deliverance, so the writer is essentially saying, "If you've been rescued or held up by God's mercy, now is the time to say so out loud." There's something powerful about this call to testify as a community. When we're going through difficulty, hearing others say "God's kindness held me through" can strengthen our own hope. The verse assumes that God's loyal love is not just a nice idea but something real enough and consistent enough to be worthy of public acknowledgment.
