“Who is like Yahweh, our God, who has his seat on high,”
What does Psalms 113:5 mean?
This opening question invites us to compare God to anyone or anything else, and the answer is immediate: no one and nothing compares. The psalmist isn't asking because he's genuinely uncertain, but because the comparison itself proves the point. By picturing God seated "on high," the writer uses an image of royalty and supreme authority, far above all earthly powers and concerns. This doesn't mean God is distant or indifferent from a throne room in the clouds. Rather, it's a way of saying that God stands outside and above our limited human struggles, yet still chooses to be intimately involved with us.
