What does Psalms 11:1 mean?
The psalmist is declaring complete trust in God as their place of safety, then asking why anyone would suggest they run away in fear instead. When trouble comes, the natural human response is often panic, but the poet is saying they've already made their choice to stand firm in God's protection rather than scatter like a frightened bird. This becomes especially powerful when read as the prayer of someone whose friends or enemies are urging them to give up hope, abandon their faith, or flee in despair. The question isn't really looking for an answer, it's a confident statement that no amount of pressure can shake their foundation.
