What does Psalms 109:19 mean?
This verse comes from one of the Bible's most difficult psalms, where the speaker calls down curses on enemies. The image here is that whatever harm or shame the psalmist wishes on his opponent will become as inseparable from him as his own clothes and belt, things a person wears constantly and can't escape. The underlying idea is that consequences become woven into someone's very existence, following them everywhere like a second skin. While we might find such prayers uncomfortable today, this psalm was a way for someone in deep pain to express their anguish honestly to God.
