What does Psalms 107:22 mean?

When life has been hard and God brings us through to the other side, gratitude isn't just a nice feeling to keep private. The psalmist is calling people to *express* their thanks openly, both through giving and through singing. In ancient times, people would offer physical sacrifices as worship, so "sacrifices of thanksgiving" meant setting aside something valuable to honor God. Today, that spirit carries forward whenever we tell others what God has done for us or lift our voices in genuine praise. The point is that grateful hearts naturally want to overflow into action and words, sharing both our thanks and God's faithfulness with those around us. When we do this, our gratitude becomes a witness to others and deepens our own sense of wonder at how we've been cared for.
