What does Psalms 105:17 mean?

Joseph's story is one of the harshest journeys in Scripture, yet this brief line reminds us that God was orchestrating something even in his suffering. Though Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers and sold into slavery in Egypt, the psalmist sees him as someone God "sent"β€”not abandoned, but positioned where he would eventually save his entire family from famine. This doesn't minimize Joseph's pain or the injustice he endured. Rather, it's saying that even our darkest chapters, where we feel most powerless and trapped, can become part of a larger redemptive story we can't yet see. If you're walking through something that feels like betrayal or captivity right now, this verse invites you to hold two truths at once: what happened to you was wrong, and God hasn't lost sight of you.
