Psalms 102:24
“I said, “My God, don’t take me away in the middle of my days. Your years are throughout all generations.”
What does Psalms 102:24 mean?
The psalmist is caught between two difficult truths: the fear that he might die before his time, and the recognition that God exists outside time altogether, unchanging across every era. He's asking God not to cut his life short, which tells us that fearing death or praying for more time here isn't something to be ashamed of. At the same time, by acknowledging God's eternal nature, he's reminding himself (and us) that God isn't bound by our limited years, which can actually bring comfort in our anxiety. It's a prayer from someone in real pain who refuses to pretend he's not scared, yet still reaches toward trust in something bigger than his fear.
