What does Proverbs 5:9 mean?
When Solomon warns about giving your honor to others and your years to the cruel one, he's describing what happens when we chase after destructive desires. Your "honor" represents your dignity, reputation, and self-respect, which can crumble when we're consumed by choices that pull us away from what's good. The "cruel one" isn't necessarily a person, but rather the grip that destructive patterns hold over us, stealing our time, energy, and the years we could have spent on things that matter. This is really about consequences: we don't wake up one day having lost everything that made us who we are. It happens gradually, through small choices that seemed harmless at the time.
