What does Proverbs 4:17 mean?

Wickedness and violence aren't just occasional choices for certain people, they're their whole way of life, like the daily bread and wine that sustain us. The verse paints a picture of people so deeply committed to wrongdoing that it's become as natural and necessary to them as eating and drinking. When we consume something regularly, it nourishes and shapes us, and this ancient writer is saying that those who constantly choose harm, deception, and cruelty are being formed by those choices in the deepest way. The warning here is that evil practices, left unchecked, become part of our very identity and sustenance rather than occasional mistakes we might repent of.
