What does Proverbs 30:10 mean?
This verse warns against tattling on someone who works under another person, especially not to their employer or authority figure. The consequence isn't magical—it's relational and practical: when you betray someone's trust this way, they understandably grow angry, and you become guilty of causing real harm through your words. There's something wise here about how gossip damages the person who spreads it as much as the one being slandered. Speaking against someone behind their back, particularly to someone with power over them, poisons relationships and your own reputation. The verse suggests that our words carry weight and consequences, and going out of our way to undermine another person's standing is both cruel and self-defeating.
