“Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.”
What does Proverbs 3:7 mean?
There's real freedom in admitting you don't have everything figured out. This verse invites us to stop trusting only our own judgment, which can be clouded by pride, fear, or self-interest, and instead anchor ourselves to something larger: reverence for God and a genuine desire to turn away from what's wrong. "Fearing the Lord" here doesn't mean being terrified, but rather having such deep respect for God that it shapes how we live. When we let go of the illusion that we're the final authority on what's right, we make space to listen, to learn, and to choose better paths, even in situations where we're confused or tempted.
