What does Proverbs 29:9 mean?
When someone seeks out conflict with you, no amount of logic or preparation will resolve it peacefully. The wise person who tries to reason with someone bent on disruption finds that their efforts only fuel more anger or mockery, because the other person isn't actually interested in understanding or truth, just in "winning." This proverb isn't telling you that wisdom is useless, but rather that it won't produce calm resolution when someone refuses to engage reasonably. Sometimes the peaceful choice is recognizing when further argument will only breed more hostility, and knowing when to step back.
