What does Proverbs 26:28 mean?
A false tongue and flattering words might seem harmless or even kind on the surface, but they actually destroy the people they're aimed at. When we lie to someone or flatter them dishonestly, we're not protecting them or helping them, we're hurting them, even if we tell ourselves otherwise. The verse suggests that lies damage relationships at their core because they're fundamentally rooted in a kind of hatred, whether we admit it or not, we can't truly care for someone while deceiving them. Real love means telling the truth, even when it's harder.
