What does Proverbs 25:18 mean?
Bearing false witness against someone is a weapon that destroys trust and can shatter a person's reputation, relationships, and livelihood in ways that are just as damaging as physical violence. The proverb compares lying about your neighbor to three different weapons because each one harms in its own way: a club causes blunt damage, a sword cuts deeply, and an arrow strikes from a distance before the victim even sees it coming. When you lie about someone, you're essentially attacking them while they may not even know where the blow is coming from. This hits especially hard if you realize how easily false words can wound people we see regularly in our communities, families, or workplaces.
