What does Proverbs 24:15 mean?
This proverb warns against targeting someone's home or peace because of your own malice or greed. The "righteous" person here isn't necessarily perfect, but someone trying to live honestly, and their "habitation" or home represents both their physical safety and their inner peace. The warning recognizes something real: when we're envious or bitter, we can be tempted to harm others where they feel most secure and vulnerable. What makes this especially meaningful is that it cuts against the grain of human nature. We often think that if we're clever or justified enough, we can take what isn't ours or disrupt someone else's wellbeing. This verse suggests that path leads nowhere good. It's calling us toward basic decency, even when (especially when) we feel wronged, and reminding us that other people's peace matters.
