What does Proverbs 23:8 mean?
When you share a meal with someone who resents you, that hospitality becomes hollow and gets rejected anyway. The proverb uses vivid, uncomfortable language to say that generosity given to a stingy or envious person won't be genuinely received or appreciated, no matter how kind your intentions. Your good words and open heart get thrown back at you because the other person's bitterness poisons the whole exchange. It's a warning that sometimes our attempts to build connection with certain people fail not because of us, but because they're not in a place to receive what we're offering.
