When we're drawn to substances that promise comfort or escape, they can become deceptive—offering the illusion of joy while actually mocking us and leading us into trouble. The proverb uses vivid language: wine "mocks" by making us think we're fine when we're not, while beer acts like a "brawler" that picks fights we wouldn't normally pick. The real point isn't that having a drink is inherently sinful, but that letting alcohol (or anything similar) be our guide or our solution shows a lack of wisdom. True wisdom means recognizing what actually helps us versus what just promises to help while quietly stealing our clarity and judgment.
