What does Proverbs 19:10 mean?
This verse points out something that strikes us as obviously wrong: when someone lacks judgment or wisdom, giving them luxury or power doesn't improve things, it makes them worse. A fool surrounded by comfort tends to become arrogant or reckless, and a servant put in charge of leaders creates chaos because they weren't prepared for that responsibility. The writer isn't saying poor people are foolish or that servants are inferior, but rather that wisdom and character matter far more than position or privilege. You can give someone everything, but if they lack discernment and integrity, they'll squander it and harm others in the process. It's a gentle reminder that the most important thing we can develop isn't our comfort level or status, but our wisdom and trustworthiness.
