What does Proverbs 16:5 mean?
Pride that hardens our hearts—the kind that makes us think we don't need God or anyone else—puts us at odds with how the world actually works. When we're inflated with self-importance, we become blind to our own blind spots, resistant to correction, and disconnected from the humility that keeps relationships healthy. The verse isn't saying God punishes pride out of spite, but rather that living with that kind of arrogance naturally separates us from God's guidance and goodness, and those consequences catch up with us eventually.
