Proverbs 14:25
βA truthful witness saves souls, but a false witness is deceitful.β
What does Proverbs 14:25 mean?
When someone tells the truth about what they've seen or know, they can literally rescue people from harm, injustice, or deception. A truthful witness in ancient Israel (as today) could mean the difference between an innocent person being wrongly punished or freed, or between a community making wise decisions or dangerous ones. On the flip side, someone who lies in testimony doesn't just bend the facts, they actively betray trust and lead others astray, sometimes with serious consequences. This proverb reminds us that our words carry weight, and honesty in what we say and do can be a real gift to those around us.
