What does Proverbs 13:8 mean?
Wealth can sometimes shield us from danger, giving the rich resources to protect themselves or buy their way out of trouble. The poor, by contrast, aren't targeted by threats because they have nothing worth taking. This doesn't mean poverty is a blessing, but it's an honest observation that desperation to get money drives a lot of the world's cruelty, and those without resources simply aren't caught in that particular snare. It's a reminder that wealth brings its own vulnerabilities, even as it brings advantages.
