Proverbs 13:17
βA wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.β
What does Proverbs 13:17 mean?
When someone carries a message for another person, their integrity matters enormously, both for themselves and for those who receive what they bring. A messenger who distorts words, lies, or acts selfishly creates conflict and damage wherever they go, ultimately trapping themselves in the consequences of their own deception. By contrast, an honest messenger who faithfully delivers truth and speaks with genuine care becomes a source of healing, restoring broken relationships and bringing people toward understanding and peace. This applies beyond literal messengers to anyone who carries words, influence, or representation in another's life. Parents teach children, friends share advice, leaders communicate vision, and we all pass along information daily. The proverb invites us to notice how our trustworthiness directly shapes the outcomes around us, making honesty not just morally right but practically wise for our own wellbeing too.
