What does Proverbs 12:4 mean?

A woman of character and integrity brings honor and strength to her marriage and family, making her husband's life richer in real ways. The second part isn't saying a difficult wife literally causes physical decay, but rather that a marriage lacking respect and trust creates a deep, ongoing sadness that eats away at a person's wellbeing. This proverb speaks to how profoundly our closest relationships affect us, for better or worse, and reminds us that the choices we make in how we treat our spouse matter enormously. It applies equally to men and women, though it's phrased from one perspective, because both partners have the power to either strengthen or undermine their marriage through their character and choices.
