Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout, is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.

What does Proverbs 11:22 mean?

Beauty without wisdom is like putting something precious in the wrong place, where it gets dirty and doesn't shine. The writer is saying that when someone is physically attractive but acts without thinking, speaks carelessly, or makes poor choices, that beauty actually works against them instead of for them. It gets wasted or even becomes something that draws people's contempt rather than respect. This applies to anyone, really, not just women, though it's phrased that way here. The point is that genuine attractiveness—the kind that lasts and actually draws people closer—grows out of thoughtfulness, restraint, and good judgment. Without those things, even the most striking appearance can't protect you from the consequences of careless choices.
