What does Proverbs 11:1 mean?
God cares deeply about honesty in how we treat others, especially when money or resources are involved. This verse pictures a merchant using rigged scales to cheat customers, and it says God finds such deception deeply offensive. By contrast, when someone deals fairly and keeps their word in business and finances, it brings God joy. The principle reaches beyond ancient marketplaces into our everyday choices: paying bills honestly, keeping financial commitments, not exaggerating what we offer, and being straightforward about what things cost or are worth. God values integrity because it reflects who he is, and because unfair dealings wound the people we're supposed to care for.
