What does Proverbs 10:14 mean?

The contrast here is about what we do with what we know. Wise people gather understanding over time, storing it up like valuable treasure they can draw from when life gets difficult. Meanwhile, someone who speaks thoughtlessly without considering consequences moves steadily toward their own downfall, often without realizing it. This speaks to something many of us recognize: there's real power in listening more than we talk, in thinking before we speak, and in valuing learning as something worth our time and attention. When we're hasty with our words or confident in shallow understanding, we tend to create problems we then have to live with.
