What does Proverbs 1:18 mean?

This verse describes people who set traps meant to harm others, only to find themselves caught in the same snare. It's a sobering picture of how schemes born from greed or violence have a way of circling back on those who devise them. The writer is showing us that when we plot against others, we're actually plotting against ourselves, even if we don't realize it in the moment. There's a kind of justice built into the way the world works: the harm we plan for someone else often becomes the harm we experience.
