Philippians 1:18

What does Philippians 1:18 mean?

Paul is imprisoned and some people are preaching about Jesus for good motives while others are doing it out of rivalry or to upset him. Rather than getting caught up in their mixed intentions, he celebrates that Christ's message is getting out there at all. He's saying that even when people's hearts aren't pure, God's truth still moves forward in the world. This shows remarkable freedom from ego. Paul cares far more about the gospel reaching people than about his own reputation or whether he gets credit for the work. It's an invitation to let go of needing everything done our way, and to recognize that God can work through imperfect situations and imperfect people. That's genuinely worth rejoicing about.
