Obadiah 1:20
“The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev.”
What does Obadiah 1:20 mean?
This verse is Obadiah's promise that Israelites scattered in exile and captivity will eventually return and reclaim their homeland, spreading from the northern regions (Zarephath) all the way through the southern desert lands (the Negev). The prophet is speaking to people who feel lost and powerless, assuring them that God hasn't abandoned them and their descendants will come home. It's a picture of restoration for those who've been displaced, whether by war, conquest, or forced migration, reminding them that exile isn't permanent. For anyone reading this who feels far from home or cut off from what matters most, it's a quiet word that return and belonging are possible.
