Obadiah 1:14

What does Obadiah 1:14 mean?
God is calling the Edomites to account for their cruelty during Judah's darkest hour. When Jerusalem fell and its people were fleeing for their lives, Edom didn't help—they actually positioned themselves to intercept and capture the refugees, profiting from their neighbor's catastrophe. This verse condemns that kind of predatory behavior, that willing participation in someone else's destruction when you have the power to show mercy instead. There's something deeply human in what God's pointing to here: the choice between exploiting vulnerability or protecting it. When someone you know is suffering, you can either be the person who adds to their burden or the one who steps aside and lets them pass. The principle reaches far beyond ancient history into any moment when we encounter someone in crisis and decide whether we'll be an obstacle or an ally.
