“Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.”
What does Numbers 8:14 mean?
God is setting the Levites apart as his special servants in the community. In ancient Israel's system, while all the people belonged to God, the Levites had a dedicated role caring for the sacred tent and leading worship, which required them to be formally consecrated and recognized as different from other tribes. This separation wasn't meant to exclude them but to clarify their unique calling and responsibility to serve God and the whole community.
