Numbers 8:12
““The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering to Yahweh, to make atonement for the Levites.”
What does Numbers 8:12 mean?
When the Levites were set apart for temple service, they participated in a ritual that acknowledged their need for forgiveness just like everyone else. By placing their hands on the animals' heads, they were symbolically transferring their own need for cleansing onto the offerings, connecting themselves to the sacrifice. The two bulls served different purposes: one addressed their sin, and the other represented their complete dedication to God's service. This ceremony reminds us that even people called to serve God spiritually must first recognize their own brokenness and dependence on His mercy.
