What does Numbers 7:1 mean?
When Moses completed the enormous task of assembling the tabernacle (the portable tent where God's presence dwelled with Israel), he didn't just set it up and move on, he consecrated everything through anointing with oil. This act of pouring oil and dedicating each object, from the smallest vessel to the altar itself, was how the Israelites marked something as sacred and set apart for God's purposes alone. It was a formal, intentional way of saying: "This belongs to God now, and we approach it with reverence." The detailed repetition here shows us that nothing involved in worship was treated casually, and that every tool and space mattered because they connected people to their creator.
