Numbers 6:25
βYahweh make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you.β
What does Numbers 6:25 mean?
This is part of the ancient blessing that Aaron, Israel's first priest, was instructed to speak over the people. When it says God's "face" shines on you, it's using the image of light and warmth to describe God's favor and attention turning toward you, like someone you love finally noticing you and smiling. "Being gracious" means offering kindness and help that you haven't earned and don't deserve, which is exactly what grace means. Together, these words express the deep desire that God would look on you with kindness, that his presence would bring light into your life, and that you'd experience his unearned favor. It's a beautiful prayer for anyone who feels unseen or needs reassurance of God's goodness.
