Numbers 4:2
““Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families, by their fathers’ houses,”
What does Numbers 4:2 mean?
God is instructing Moses to count the men of the Kohath clan, who were Levites set apart for specific sacred work in the tabernacle. This census wasn't just administrative busy work, it was a way of organizing who would carry the holy furnishings and tend to certain aspects of worship. When God asks us to be counted and known, it's a gentle reminder that we each have a specific place and purpose in his community, and that we matter enough to him to be accounted for by name and family line.
