What does Numbers 35:3 mean?

When the Levites (Israel's priests and temple workers) received their inheritance, they didn't get farmland like the other tribes did. Instead, they were given towns scattered throughout Israel where they could live, plus surrounding pastureland for their animals and property. This arrangement meant the Levites stayed connected to communities across the whole nation while still having room to care for their flocks and basic needs. God's provision here shows a practical care for the people who served him, making sure they weren't left without means of support even though their primary work was spiritual rather than agricultural.
