What does Numbers 31:2 mean?
God is telling Moses to lead Israel in a military campaign against the Midianites, who had led Israel into idolatry and sexual sin that brought a plague killing thousands. The word "avenge" here means to act as a deliverer and protector, restoring justice for what was done to God's people.
