What does Numbers 3:25 mean?

The Gershonites were one of the main families of Levites, and this verse describes their specific job in caring for the portable worship space called the Tent of Meeting. While other Levite families handled the furniture and holy objects inside, the Gershonites were responsible for the structure itself, the tent fabric, and the coverings that protected everything from the weather. Think of them as the custodians of the building's framework and walls, which was essential work even if it wasn't as visible as handling the sacred items. This tells us that God's work involves all kinds of responsibilities, and the "behind-the-scenes" jobs matter just as much as the ones that get attention.
