Numbers 27:19
βSet him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and commission him in their sight.β
What does Numbers 27:19 mean?
Moses is being told how to officially hand over his leadership to Joshua in a way the whole community can witness and understand. By presenting Joshua publicly before the priest and all the people, Moses gives the transfer of authority real weight, making it clear to everyone that Joshua now speaks and acts with the same God-given authority that Moses carried. This kind of public commissioning mattered then just as it does now, when people need to know who is leading them and that those leaders have genuine backing. There's something settling about a clear handoff, especially during uncertain times.
