Numbers 23:24
“Behold, the people rises up as a lioness. As a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.””
What does Numbers 23:24 mean?
Balaam, a non-Israelite prophet hired to curse the people of Israel, finds himself unable to speak anything but blessing over them. This image of a lion rising up to devour its prey describes Israel's unstoppable strength and readiness for battle as they move toward the promised land. The point isn't that Israel is cruel or bloodthirsty, but that they're formidable, fierce, and won't rest until they've achieved what God has set before them. For the community hearing this, it's a declaration that God has made them powerful and purposeful, their momentum carrying them forward until victory is complete.
