Numbers 22:16
“They came to Balaam, and said to him, “Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, ‘Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me,”
What does Numbers 22:16 mean?
King Balak is sending his messengers a second time to Balaam, and this time he's sweetening the deal. After his first request was refused, Balak is basically saying, "Don't let anything stop you, whatever it takes, just come." It's a picture of how desperation and fear can make us push harder when we should probably accept a no. What makes this moment poignant is that Balaam is already being warned by God not to go, yet human persuasion keeps working at him. Balak doesn't know about the spiritual battle happening behind the scenes, but his persistent coaxing shows how easy it is to feel torn between what we know is right and what others are pressuring us to do. Sometimes the hardest obedience is saying no to someone who really, really wants us to say yes.
