Numbers 22:13
“Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, “Go to your land; for Yahweh refuses to permit me to go with you.””
What does Numbers 22:13 mean?
Balaam had been asked by Balak's messengers to curse the Israelites in exchange for payment, but God explicitly told him not to go. When morning came, Balaam did the right thing: he refused the offer and sent the princes back empty-handed. What's striking here is that Balaam actually listened to God's clear direction, even though accepting would have brought him wealth and status. His obedience in this moment shows us something important about what it means to take God seriously, especially when saying no costs us something we want.
