Numbers 18:24

For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they offer as a wave offering to Yahweh, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance. Therefore I have said to them, ‘Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.’”

What does Numbers 18:24 mean?

God established a unique arrangement for the Levites, the tribe set apart for religious service: instead of receiving their own territory like the other tribes, they would be supported by a portion of what others gave to God. The tithe (a tenth) that Israelites brought as an offering would go directly to the Levites as their livelihood and security. This meant the Levites's trust in God had to be especially real, since their survival depended entirely on the faithfulness of the community to give what God asked of them. It's a beautiful reminder that those called to serve God and others still need practical care and provision.
