What does Numbers 16:37 mean?

In this moment, the community has just witnessed a divine judgment where rebels were consumed by fire from the Lord. Moses tells the priest Eleazar to gather up those bronze censers (the vessels used for burning incense) from among the ashes and scatter their flames safely away from the camp. Even though the censers had been used in an act of rebellion against God's appointed priesthood, they remain set apart as holy objects and must be treated with reverence. This speaks to something profound: holiness isn't destroyed or transferred away by how people misuse it. The containers themselves retain their sacred purpose, and now they'll be repurposed to remind the people of God's standards and the seriousness of stepping outside their rightful place.
