What does Numbers 14:38 mean?

Joshua and Caleb were the only two spies out of twelve who came back from scouting the promised land with faith that God could help Israel take it. While the other ten spread fear and doubt among the people, saying the task was impossible, these two believed God's promise despite the very real dangers ahead. This verse marks them as survivors of a generation that would wander in the wilderness for forty years because of their collective lack of trust. Their faithfulness in that moment of pressure wasn't rewarded with immediate victory, but it was remembered, and they alone from their generation would eventually enter the land they'd been promised.
