What does Numbers 1:27 mean?
After a census of all Israel's fighting men, the tribe of Judah came out as the largest group with 74,600 able-bodied men. This wasn't just a random headcount, but part of God's instruction to organize the people for their wilderness journey and eventual conquest of Canaan. Judah's size foreshadowed something important: this tribe would later become the most prominent in Israel's history and give its name to the Jewish people. Even in these early organizational lists, we see God at work, counting and caring for his people as they prepared for what lay ahead.
