What does Nehemiah 7:54 mean?

This verse is part of a long genealogical list recording which families returned to Jerusalem after exile in Babylon. These particular names represent clans whose ancestors had been taken captive but were now coming home to rebuild their community and their relationship with God. Lists like this might seem dry to us today, but they carried deep meaning for those returning exiles—each name represented real people reclaiming their identity and their place in God's story. Even the names we don't recognize matter, because they show that God remembered everyone, not just the famous or prominent ones.
