What does Nehemiah 7:23 mean?

This brief line is part of Nehemiah's careful record of who returned from exile in Babylon to rebuild Jerusalem. Bezai was apparently a family or clan whose 324 members made the journey home, and their number was significant enough to document alongside the other groups. The list itself tells a story of restoration: after decades away, real people with real names were coming back to reclaim their lives and their city. For those returning, being counted and named meant they belonged, they mattered, and they had a place in the community being rebuilt.
